Top 5 Places to Visit in Thao Dien for Weekend Getaways

Quan Ut Ut American BBQ Restaurant

If you are all about BBQ, visiting Quan Ut Ut American BBQ Restaurant is an absolute must this weekend. Let the fire and smoke tantalize your senses while cooking pork ribs, sausage, and so much more over a charcoal fire. Plus, they have bacon: homemade, slow-cooked bacon. And we love bacon, from their spicy and sweet sugarcane habanero to their out-of-this-world hopped beer and brown sugar bacon.

We also love their excellent service and rowdy, vibrant atmosphere inside Quan Ut Ut on the weekend. So beyond the great food, you’re guaranteed to feel taken care of and have fun. Well regarded among Vietnamese locals and Thao Dien’s vibrant expat community alike, Quan Ut Ut will please even the snobbiest American BBQ fans. So what are you waiting for? As their slogan says: “LET THERE BE A LIGHTER!”

Location: 47 Xuan Thuy, Thao Dien ward, District 2, HCMC.

Bistro Song Vie Riverside Restaurant

The next locale on your weekend to-do list is Bistro Song Vie Riverside Restaurant. Unlike Quan Ut Ut, this riverside dining spot is for those who appreciate tranquility and a relaxed ambiance. Chill by the picturesque Saigon River and enjoy the delicious fusion cuisine paired with a wide range of wines and beverages. What is better than having good food while immersing yourself in the cozy atmosphere by the Saigon River?

Not in the mood for Vietnamese or Asian cuisine? Not to worry, because Bistro Song Vie offers a vast selection of modern dishes that will meet everyone’s needs with their creative and thoughtful east-meets-west menu. And the fresh and cozy resort-style decor will wisp you from the inner city of Saigon to the feeling like you’re in Bali, Indonesia.

Location: 197/2 Nguyen Van Huong, Thao Dien ward, District 2, HCMC.

Saigon Outcast Bar and Restaurant

Chilling out by the river isn’t your cup of tea? How about a place designed for the young and bold: Saigon Outcast Bar and Restaurant. This epic watering-hole and event venue is arguably the cultural center of the Thao Dien ward. Enjoy great food, craft beers, events, music, skating, and more; you will never have enough of Saigon Outcast. With an ever-growing list of events and consistent crowds, every visit to this famous spot will be an experience to remember.

As we mentioned, this is not just a place to eat and drink. With recreational activities like push climbing and skating to get your adrenaline rush, there is truly something for everyone at Saigon Outcast. And did we mention they have a driving simulation room called Track Day, where you can grab the wheel and start racing? If that’s not enough, you can end your night by getting a tattoo at Celebrity Ink. What are you waiting for?

Location: 188/1 Nguyen Van Huong, Thao Dien ward, District 2, HCMC.

Chenh Venh Rooftop Beer Garden

Another riverside spot on the list to spend a night out with your best pals is Chenh Venh Rooftop Beer Garden. Translated to “Wanderlust,” the bar’s name suggests it welcomes the most passionate rovers with a nostalgic and rustic atmosphere, fantastic foods and drinks, and a marvelous Saigon River view. The weekend is the best time to visit Chenh Venh as they host live acoustic shows every Saturday night.

As a person who loves the rustic ambiance that gives me a breath of fresh air after a long week, I particularly fall in love with places like Chenh Venh. Not too crowded nor too fancy, a cozy and country-feel bar right in the heart of Saigon is all everyone needs to find inner peace, restore their energy, and feel motivated to start another week. But, do not get carried away by the beautiful riverscape and stay too long! Chenh Venh is only open until 12:30 AM.

Location: No. 7 54 st., Thao Dien ward, District 2, HCMC.

Kitchen Non-profit Restaurant

Last but not least, spend your weekend with your family and friends at Kitchen, a beautifully designed non-profit restaurant hidden in the heart of Thao Dien. Kitchen has been nourishing its neighborly guests while supporting the local community since 2020, donating its revenue to support Children’s Charities in Vietnam with a mission to bring a better quality of life to those in need.

Despite being a not-for-profit eatery, Kitchen serves a wide range of foods and drinks to suit all taste buds. Their extensive menu of American and Asian dishes, from appetizers to desserts, will leave you and your kids feeling healthy and happy!
